Winterland at The Bowl 2019
We’re absolutely thrilled to announce that we’ve secured The National Bowl for Winterland MK 2019. This is a fantastic windfall as The Bowl is a nationally recognised venue for large scale events and for our Christmas event it is perfect. Before we agreed with The Bowl Management, we did consider other venues for Winterland, which included Campbell Park, Caldecotte Lake, The MK Dons and The Old Bus Station.
Campbell Park was a serious contender because of its beauty and picturesque setting, but we decided that in winter, its uneven grass and muddy exposed surface wouldn’t work for the large attractions such as The Ferris Wheel and Ice Rink, which require a flat, even surface. Caldecotte Lake was another potential venue because of its beautiful setting, but again, we felt that access for a large-number of visitors would be an issue, as we would be expecting thousands of visitors daily, with associated parking. We also wanted a venue which would be wheelchair friendly as well as have disability parking.
We have close ties with the MK Dons as Vantage’s MD Matt Bowler has sponsored the team for 10 years. The Dons loved the idea of a Winterland and loved our design pitch, pictured below, which would have commandeered the car park used for the away team visitors. Our intention is for the event to grow, yet the likelihood is that The Dons will be promoted and require more space in the car-park and we wanted to guarantee longevity of a recurring event.

We considered every potential venue for Winterland, including The Old Bus Station, which being smack bang in the middle of central MK and right next to The Railway Station, could have worked well. The MK Council considered our design, however, we decided that the heavy traffic, lack of scenery and limited space for what we have in mind, which includes a snow slide, ice rink and many other attractions, would render it insufficient.

We concluded that we needed a venue which not only had brilliant access, but also had adequate space for the expected footfall and associated parking. We also wanted a venue which had some green coverage and lent itself to creating a magical Christmas outdoor space. The Bowl is a perfect choice because it is purpose built for such large-scale events and vast numbers of people and is easily accessible. It is also tree-lined. Our drawing outlines how the event space at The Bowl, will accommodate the Bavarian Market and attractions, which include Santa’s Grotto, Ice Rink, Roller Coaster, Snow Dome, Ferris Wheel, Snow Slide, Food and Beverage area plus a stage for live music.
