Vantage Event Structures are excited to announce that they’ll be designing and fabricating a purpose-built ramp for this year’s Milton Keynes’ Soap Box Derby (SBD) being held on the 8 June 2019.
The MK soap box event is in its second year and its main purpose is to showcase some crazy home-made karts, raise money for charity and most importantly have some fun! Each kart will race along Midsummer Boulevard/Saxon Gate in Central Milton Keynes down a 200m course filled with obstacles. The winner will walk away with the SBD crown and a bottle of bubbly.
To enter you need to build a kart to spec, ensuring it’s safe and high quality, but the design is open ended. Last year’s karts ranged from army tanks and boats to a home-made motor bike and an aeroplane – brilliant!
As they’re not motorized, a decent sized ramp at the start is a must. This year we’ve been asked to build a bigger ramp than last year’s - 3m (h) by 15 m (l) with a 10-degree gradient, giving the contenders plenty of rev!
There’ll be live music, street food and summer delights to be had this year and the great thing is all the proceeds; entrance fees and sponsorship money; will be going to Milton Keynes Hospital Charity (MKHC) – a great local cause!
The event is organised by local media house MK21 with the help of MK Council, Ringway and MyMiltonKeynes.
As Vantage is an award-winning event structures company based in Milton Keynes, we’re delighted to be building the ramp for this year’s SBD and the prospect of entering our own kart, has got our design team buzzing.
